How long should…

How long should it take to make a good painting? I struggle sometimes for days on a painting and never seem to get to a satisfactory point. Other times I paint something in 30 minutes and am pleased with the result. Is it a matter of having the skills when that happens? (Being untrained in painting, that seems unlikely…) Or is it dumb luck? (That sounds about right…)
